| Since July 1983, Vance & Vicki Booher
have been carrying on the tradition of Innkeeping at Mountain View Hotel &
Conference Center. Together they are keeping the traditions of hospitality
and ambiance put in place by the Booher family while energetically renovating
and expanding the Inn. The Innkeeping tradition
began in 1940, with the purchase of Mountain View by the Booher family. The first
innkeeper at Mountain View was Vance Sr who was educated at W & J and Harvard
Law School and practiced in Greensburg. Following World War II in 1945, Vance
Jr took over principal Innkeeping responsibilities, aided significantly by his
brother Ned, and the rest of the family. Together they managed the Inn until Vance's
death in 1983 and Ned's retirement in 1984. Married in 1972, Vance and
Vicki lived in the Fairfax, Virginia area until returning to Greensburg in 1982.
In July 1983, they continued the tradition of Innkeeping at Mountain View Hotel
& Conference Center. Vance was educated at Dickinson
College and did his graduate work in Foreign Affairs at Georgetown. Until 1982,
Vance worked in the Missile Program Management for the Defense Department. Today
Vance is involved in the study, teaching and appreciation of wine. He has been
awarded the coveted distinction of Advanced Certified Wine Professional
by the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) - one of only 16 such individuals in
America and the first to be so recognized on the East Coast. Vicki
was educated at Hanover and Seton Hill Colleges and did her graduate work in Elementary
Education at the University of Virginia. She taught in Hempfield for one year
and in Prince William County School District in Virginia until 1980. Receiving
professional florist training at the New Orleans School of Floral Design, today
in addition to Innkeeping, Vicki runs Wild Indigo, Floral Design Studio. The
tradition of Innkeeping continues today with the fourth generation working at
Mountain View. Jonathan received his degree from the College of Charleston in
2002 and Erik received his degree from Shippensburg University in 2003. In
its many years under the Booher Family, Mountain View has grown considerably.
Yet the time honored traditions of hospitality have continued to be the hallmarks
of the family's management. You have the family's promise that this will continue
thorough future generations. |
