| Built in 1924 to accommodate the needs of
an increasingly mobile public along the historic Lincoln
Highway, Mountain View Hotel & Conference Center, in its original sections,
is typical of early 20th Century overnight roadhouses. Many of these grew up along
our nation's early highways across the country. Few are left.

Mountain View offered a simple "farmhouse" type architecture with
a wrap around porch
Mountain View and its original 1925 outdoor
pool (torn down in 1973) served as a "close-by" retreat for the
wealthy of Pittsburgh until the war years. During the war, the Inn's importance
grew as it served as the lodging, dining and meeting place for area industrialists
building our nation's military might. The Inn also served as the social headquarters
for Army Air Corps cadets training at the nearby airport in Latrobe, now Arnold
Palmer Regional Airport.

Mountain View as it appeared in 1932
A very simple "farmhouse"
type of architecture, with a large wrap-around porch welcomed travelers. The interior
of the original Inn, with its knotty pine paneling and great stone fireplace has
been maintained. The public spaces and many of the guest rooms are decorated with
the extraordinary collection of early Pennsylvania antiques acquired by the owner's
family over the years. Additions to Mountain View over the years have maintained
integrity with the original inn style and decor. Beautiful gardens and gazebos
now adorn the property encouraging a pleasant walk or relaxing private moment.
A lovely pool and party pavilion now add to the pleasure of your stay.
