Scotch Bar Mountain View Hotel &
Conference Center features some of the finest Single Malt Scotch available today.
Take a brief look at a few of the famous Scotch Whiskey brands from their region
of origin:
The Upper & Lower Spey-
The Fiddich and the Dullan The Livet Glenlivet Glendronach
The most popular of all Scotch Whiskies
come from this region. Islay is a Scottish island off the Southwest coast. The
island is about 25 miles long, yet it has eight distilleries located on the island.
Mountain View is proud to offer some of this island's finest Single Malts.

The most Northerly of whiskies are Orcadian. The Orkneys are a group of islands
that were ruled by Norway and Denmark for 500 years. As a late comer to the Gaelic
culture, the Orkneys passed to Scotland in 1468, the two Orkney distilleries produce
a subtle and less sweet character all their own!

Skye is probably the most
romantically celebrated island of Scottish legend. Rich in tales of magic and
bravery, it is also home to a whiskey-based drink -- Drambuie. So too are the
characteristics of the fine Whiskies which come from this region. The Inn has
an outstanding assortment of these single malts, four of which are featured here.

The Upper & Lower Spey Both the quality and the romance
of Scotch whisky depend upon mountains, rocky streams, peat moors and fresh air.
The Upper Spey has its distilleries tucked away in remote Highlands, some over
1,000 FT. above sea level, with plenty of peat in the moors and pure, clean water
in the small, mountain lochs. The image of the Scottish Highlands, and the home
of remote distilleries, make The Speyside one of the most popular whisky producing
regions.

The Fiddich and the Dullan On the other side of the hills
from Glenlivet, to the east, is Glenfiddich. The waters of the Dullan meet the
river Fiddich, then join the Spey. Thus the region of The Fiddich and the Dullan.
This region takes the single malt from the purist of Scotch Whisky drinkers to
the everyday drinker! Best characterized by the label Glenfiddich, it is one of
the easier single malts to be appreciated by the novice.

The Livet Glenlivet The Livet is a river,
little more than a creek, that flows first into the Avon and then into the Spey
Rivers. Within the broad embrace of the Speyside is the smaller district around
the glen of the river Livet. The whiskies produced in and around this valley are
famous by association. The appellation Glenlivet is loosely used. Nor does it
indicate a style, though perhaps it should suggest a light, elegant, complex malt.

Glendronach
From the North-Eastern Coastline toward the valleys of the Speyside, there are
nine distilleries within 40 miles from the City of Aberdeen (Scotland's third
largest city). The whiskies of this region are not regarded as being in a style
of their own, though several of them do have an especially rich fruitiness.
Offered
as an example of the deliciously sweet single malt, with smoky, dry notes to balance
it, Teacher's Glendronach 8 years old single malt is illustrated. The Inn
offers the Glendronach 12 years old single malt Scotch Whisky, a hearty after-dinner
whisky that is surprisingly little known! |
